Brighton Corporation Tramways ran for 38 years from 1901 until 1939, of the 116 tram cars built by the Corporation at their Lewes Road Depot, only 1, number 53, still survives. Number 53 was built in 1937 and after only 2 years of running, was sold to a West Sussex farm where she remained until the 1970s. For the next 3 decades she sat in a shed, untouched, until now... You can make a difference! Brighton Tram 53 Society was formed in 2010 to restore this local, unique, historic vehicle. Restoration is already underway by society members and the estimated cost of restoring the bodywork alone is £10,000 - £12,000.
